Dr. Art Amann is the Director of the Mercyhurst Public Safety Institute and Police Academy. As such, he is responsible for the implementation and oversight of numerous projects undertaken by the Institute, primarily serving the criminal justice communities. The Center for Public Safety offers technical assistance and training to law enforcement, corrections and fire services, in addition to offering undergraduate classes in policing, fire investigation, and corrections.
Dr. Amann brings with him an abundance of experience in the area of corrections, education, and administration. He was the director of corrections and warden at the Erie County Department of Corrections from 1993 through 1999 after serving as chief adult probation/parole officer for the county from 1983 to 1993. He began his career as an adult probation/parole officer.
